Western Regional Director of Education (RDE) Jared Obiero has lauded schools in the region for performing well in co-curricular activities this year.

Speaking at Legacy Hotel in Nakuru City during Kakamega County KESSHA Annual Conference, Obiero said it is the role of principals in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) to give students the opportunity to showcase their various talents.

“We appreciate the role played by all school principals as far as co-curricular activities are concerned in Western region. The impact has been evident during national competitions, which have seen many students excelling in their various activities,” said Obiero, urging school heads to continue supporting sports in their schools and ensure all students participate.

He said students in the region have also performed well in the Science and Engineering Fair, and some of them will represent the country in Japan and South Africa.

The RDE thanked Bungoma County for heroically welcoming students who participated in the national competitions.

“We should appreciate our teams as they arrived home to let them know that they have made us proud,” he said, warning teachers against involving non-students in the competitions.

“Co-curricular activities is part of school syllabus and it is meant for only students, so let us only allow genuine student to participate,” added Obiero, advising school heads to ensure that all school buses are in good condition to avoid accidents.

He was flanked by Kakamega County Director of Education Hellen Nyangau, Kakamega TSC County Director Margaret Kinyanjui, Sub-county Directors of Education and TSC Sub-County Directors from all sub-counties, and County KESSHA officials, among other guests.
