Train tickets extended for students who had booked for schools reopening

Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. Kenya Railways has extended the life of tickets bought by students after schools reopening was put off.

The Kenya Railways (KR) has extended the tickets for students using the Madaraka Express train with its terminus in Suswa.

In a statement dated April 29, KR noted that all students’ tickets purchased for travel between Monday April 29 and Friday May 3, aboard the Madaraka Express, will remain open for use from Monday May 6 to Friday May 10, 2024 during the extended schools reopening period.

“We wish to notify members of the public that owing to the postponement of schools opening dates for all primary and secondary schools by the Ministry of Education, all students tickets purchased for travel between today Monday, April 29 and Friday, May 3 aboard Madaraka Express will remain open for use from Monday, May 6 to Friday May 10, 2024,” reads part of the statement.

The extensions only apply to students and their accompanying guardian.

This comes after the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu postponed the second term reopening dates to May 6 due to the heavy rains that have been pounding many parts of the country for the past few weeks and caused floods.

The Madaraka Express passenger services connects 13 destinations between Mombasa and Suswa. It is divided into two; Mombasa-Nairobi and Nairobi Terminus to Suswa station in Narok County.
