The National Parents Association (NPA) has urged parents to ensure that their children complete the holiday assignments given when schools closed before reopening.

Speaking to Education News, the association’s National Chairperson David Silas Obuhatsa stated that as schools gear towards reopening, children must be adequately prepared for second term.

“NPA is calling on all parents to start preparing their children in advance for school opening. Parents are urged to remind their children to complete all assignments given by their teachers before schools open,” said Obuhatsa.

He stated further that parents should use this time to sit with their children and listen to their requests and give them the best pieces of advice relating to school matters.

According to Obuhatsa, parents should be reminded that it is their responsibility to work closely with the government and ensure that all school environments are safe and secure for their children.

He also urged the police who will be manning all roads from next week to take stern measures against any school drivers, Boards of Management (BoMs) and heads who will fail to take their buses for inspection.

Obuhatsa reiterated that schools belong to parents and therefore it is their role to make sure all is well for their children.

“School transport has been a big issue because of common road accidents that have in the past affected innocent children. NPA is urging all parents through their BoMs and class representatives to make sure that school buses have been inspected by the time schools open,” said Obuhatsa.
