TSC urged to exclude politicians from its recruitment exercises

Education activist and Amani National Congress (ANC) Party youth leader Mwalimu Pamphil John Omondi has exhorted Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to exclude politicians from any of its recruitment exercises.

Asking it to be non-partisan, Omondi noted that in recent times politicians have infiltrated the recruitment exercises, telling the commission to be fair to the unemployed teachers.

“I am asking the government and TSC not to be partisan in distributing employment slots. They should put politicians out of employment of teachers. Teachers are very important professionals, and we can’t politicize the education of our children,” he said.

Omondi further called upon every youth in the country to use their ability to be productive, even as they negotiate with the government to lower the cost of starting and running business in the country.

In relation to Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Omondi noted that the curriculum was designed to fit and solve challenges in developed countries and not developing countries like Kenya.

“CBC was meant to improve on the shortcoming of the already developed countries and not a third world country. It’s very unfortunate that a developing country can copy-paste the curriculum of developed countries and see no problem with it. CBC is not working and that’s the truth on the ground,” he said.

“Even the most learned – the professors and PhD holders – fear to contradict their bosses, yet they know the exact loopholes in the new curriculum. That’s why you will find their children and grandchildren flocking learning institutions that are offering international curricula. A child of a peasant is at risk. We can have a curriculum design that can solve our African challenges,” he added.
