Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Bungoma East chapter has asked Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to stop transferring teachers during closing dates.

The branch executive Secretary Robert Mandila said the most affected is Webuye West Sub-county in Bungoma County.

Mandila said in recent years several teachers have been receiving transfer letters on closing dates.

“If a teacher is given a transfer letter on a closing date, where will he or she report,” said the unionist.

He warned of unspecified union action if the teachers’ employer will not cease the trend and promised to defend interests and right of teachers at whatever costs.

He spoke at St Joseph’s Day and Boarding Primary School in Webuye during prize giving day.

Mandila was in March elected as branch executive secretary. Prior, he was the branch chair. His election occurred after immediate executive secretary Aggrey Namisi was elected as the second vice chairperson of Knut.
