School heads asked to familiarize with CBC for relevance

Nandi KESSHA chairman Elias Cheruiyot. He wants principals to familiarize themselves with new curriculum to remain relevant.

School heads from Nandi County have been impressed upon to acquaint themselves with the new education curriculum in order for them to remain relevant.

Nandi Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) chairperson Elias Cheruiyot said the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) requires prior planning by respective schools in order for it to be implemented.

Speaking in Kisumu during their Annual General Meeting (AGM), Cheruiyot said school heads should chart a pathway as the new model takes shape, pointing out that each school should be able to be identified with a particular subject.

He said the Ministry of Education (MoE) should come up with clear pathways on how to implement the new curriculum going forward, warning that some schools risked being merged or phased out altogether if they do not prepare adequately for the transition.

He urged the government to fast-track the disbursement of capitation funds before schools reopen in order for them to plan ahead.

Earlier, the chairperson urged members to exercise prudent management of resources, charging that at the end of the day they are the accounting officers.

He urged them to work closely with Boards of Management (BoMs) and parents.
