KUPPET Bomet asks TSC to stop external posting of school heads

Bomet County KUPPET Executive Secretary Paul Kimeto. He has demanded that TSC halts the handing over ceremonies of head teachers in the county.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Bomet Branch, has urged Teachers Services Commission (TSC) to halt the deployment of school heads to other counties from Bomet County.

In a memo signed by the branch Executive Secretary Paul Kimeto dated April 25, 2024, addressed to TSC and seen by Education News, the commission was requested to stop the headship handing over ceremonies, which started yesterday and will end on May, 2, 2024.

He said the school heads who have been in acting capacity are behind the existence of certain schools in the county that have had as low a student population as 36 and moved it to over 250 students.

Kimeto urged the commission to confirm and promote them in the stations where they are currently.

“I wish to say without any fear of contradiction that nobody should replace any acting principal or head teacher. All acting principals and head teachers should be confirmed and promoted in their stations where they are currently. Any newly appointed principal or head teacher should be directed to schools without anybody acting so far, but our schools with acting personnel should not be touched,” the memo read in part.

At the same time, he blamed TSC for neglecting certain counties, including Bomet, turning a blind eye to their promotions despite constant reminders by the union. He termed this as going against the labour laws, Employment Act and the Kenya Constitution 2010 Article 4, 27 and 37, which calls for non-discrimination of workers.

He also asked the Regional Director to stop meddling in the county education activities.

The memo was copied to Bomet’s TSC Director, CDE, Regional Director, and TSC headquarters.
