The Director for Research Development in the Ministry of Education Dr. Roselida Owuor has urged institutions of higher learning to cultivate and nurture the potential of young minds, steering them towards a future marked by innovation and research.

Speaking during the inaugural session of Chuka University’s 10th International Research Conference, she asserted that this transformative endeavour will be the cornerstone of economic betterment in Kenya.

Dr. Owuor further emphasized that the unique hurdles confronting Kenya demand indigenous, research-driven solutions rooted in innovation and technology.

Additionally, she articulated the nation’s aspiration to evolve into a knowledge-based economy.

“Knowledge creation, adoption, and utilization stand as pivotal drivers of accelerated economic growth, shaping the prosperity and welfare of the populace,” the Director underscored.

Moreover, she extolled such forums and collaborative engagements, lauding their capacity to convene multifaceted experts who can share innovative findings that directly impact the lives of Kenyan citizens.

Dr. Owuor also encouraged institutions of higher learning to spearhead a paradigm shift, one that propels technological development and streamlines industries for both employment opportunities and entrepreneurial ventures.

The ongoing two-day International Research Conference, boasting the theme “Mainstreaming Research, Innovation, and Technology-Transfer and Commercialization for Sustainable Economies (MRIT-TCSE),” has drawn over 300 participants from national and international universities.

The Vice Chancellor of Chuka University Prof. Henry Mutembei, reiterated the urgent need for scholars to secure funding for their institutions through research initiatives.

He emphasized that the reliance on government funding alone is no longer viable, urging all stakeholders to contribute to the resources and assist the government in enhancing educational institutions.
