TSC issues schedules retooling of grades 7, 8 teachers on delivery and assessment

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued instructions on retooling of teachers handling Grade 7 and 8 in Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and assessment, which is scheduled to take place later this month.

In a memo dated April 24, 2024 addressing all the TSC regional and county directors, the commission revealed that the retooling of the teachers in Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency Based Assessment (CBA) will kick off on May 20, 2024 and end on May 30, 2024.

It revealed that the model of training will be smart cascade and will involve the training of Master Trainers who will then train the Trainers of Trainers and thereafter offer professional support during the teachers’ face to face training in the county.

“The purpose of retooling is to equip teachers handling grades 7 and 8 with the prerequisite knowledge, skills, values and attitudes on rationalized learning areas in CBC to enhance its implementation in junior secondary,” the memo read in part.

From May 20 – 23, 2024, training of trainers of (ToTs), Regular and Special Needs Education (SNE), will be conducted with participants being the trainers of trainers.

Subsequently, from May 24 – 25, 2024, the sub-county and zonal training coordination will take place with master trainers, ToTs, and County Directors being the participants.

Also, May 27 to 30, 2024 will see the retooling of teachers clustered per subjects take place and teachers of languages, Science, Mathematics, Humanities, and Technical subjects will be the main participants.

At the same time, TSC regional and county directors are asked to select venues within their counties for the retooling clustered per subject, as well as the training of ToTs (Regular and SNE) whilst the training of the sub-county and zonal training coordination is scheduled to be conducted at the county/ sub-county levels.
