KUPPET Executive Secretary for Baringo Branch Zacharia Kipsaina Nyomboi has vowed to rally behind Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers in their countrywide demonstrations until TSC honours their demands.
Speaking in Kabarnet town where hundreds of teachers converged to participate in the peaceful demonstrations, the union official said it was demoralizing that the government and TSC continues ignoring their demands even after several attempts were made by the union to seek redress.
“We are fully supporting our languishing teachers until a deal on good pay is reached,” said the union boss.
He said the government should compensate and turn their terms to permanent and pensionable like other government employees.
Kipsaina questioned the criterion the government used to arrive at paying teachers the meagre pay while other professionals get higher pay.
He said teachers on internship will down their tools until court orders seeking to improve their terms of employment are obeyed.
The union chairman David Kibet expressed dissatisfaction with the employment of fresh graduates on permanent and pensionable terms, leaving JSS teachers yet they play an integral role in laying the foundation for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Kibet lashed out at TSC for colluding with politicians to employ their relatives who recently graduated from university on permanent and pensionable terms.
