Machogu inaugurates new members of TVETA Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has inaugurated the new members of the  Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) Board of Directors.

The new five members include Dr Keter Kipkogei, Hassan Sumba, Eng Dr Edward Odhong, Benson Kinyua, who is representing the Permanent Secretary and Niambi Muchane.

Others in the board are the chairperson Dr Florence Ndede, Dr Esther Gecicio and Winnie Mwalimu.

During the inauguration ceremony that was held at the Authority’s office at Utalii House, Machogu congratulated the new members and challenged them to achieve their oversight mandate with zeal and commitment to ensure TVET sector reaches higher levels.

The CS said that the TVET sector is critical to the Kenya Kwanza administration development agenda and asked the directors to seek to understand their new roles and focus on addressing challenges facing the sector.

“I ask you to embark on ensuring that the TVET trainers are properly equipped with sufficient skills to enable them offer practical training and implement the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum before they are posted to various institutions,” he said.

He directed the Board to ensure that the TVET institutions gave linkages and inculcated dual training with the industry to enable trainees get practical orientation and work place experiences.

He assured the new board of his ministry’s support to have them realizes their mandate of regulating and coordinating the sector in line with the government development agenda.

The Authority’s Board Chairman Prof Florence Ndede appreciated the CS for gracing the occasion and supporting the authority to meet its mandate.

She promised the CS that her members will work and satisfy the public above expectations.

“Our mandate is to oversight and mobilize resources for the Authority so that management can implement its activities in the work plan,” she said.

TVET Director General Dr Kipkirui Lang’at highlighted key achievements of the Authority that include licensing over 24,400 public and private institutions, registering of over 6,500 trainers, opening of three regional offices, automating all systems and services, developing 10 regulatory standards among other achievements.

Kipkirui informed the CS that his Authority has developed its second strategic plan 2023-2027 adding that it will be launched in June to coincide with the Authority’s 10th Anniversary.
