Alex Dunga, KNUT NEC member representing Nyanza. He has warned Saccos against mismanaging teachers' savings.

A Nyanza KNUT top official has warned Saccos that are patronized by teachers in the region against mismanagement of funds held in the entities.

Speaking when he attended the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Jumuisha Sacco (formerly Bondo Teachers Sacco), a NEC member for Nyanza Alex Dunga castigated the managements of various teacher Saccos for overseeing the suffering of teachers who have heavily invested in them.

“Some of these Saccos have gone down due to mismanagement…as we speak now, we are aware of challenges across our teacher Saccos over dividend issues, among other challenges. We will insist on good management practices and if we have evidences of misappropriation, then we will ensure the law is followed to ensure our teachers’ monies are safe,” he said.

He assured that the union will consider escalating the matter to some higher levels to rid the Saccos of unscrupulous individuals who have continued to exploit teachers.

“We have discussed this issue with the various county governments since the docket falls within the devolved units. We will engage on finding amicable solutions to the problems bedevilling our teacher Saccos. We will insist on capacity building and prudent management clinics so that we have a profitable movement able to help our teachers grow economically,” Dunga promised.
