The upcoming Grand Fish Fiesta 2024 Festival aims to not only celebrate Lake Victoria and the Fish Value Chain, but also to promote sustainable tourism, economic empowerment and cultural exchange within the community and beyond.
In a speech read on his behalf by the county’s CECM for Trade,Tourism,Co-operatives,Industry and Marketing Faridah Salim during a media briefing, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said the three-day extravaganza intends to celebrate the city’s rich heritage, particularly centred around Lake Victoria which is a significant resource.
“This fiesta is not just an event; it is a testament to our collective commitment to environmental stewardship, cultural preservation and economic empowerment, and we will begin with a symbolic gesture of our dedication to a clean and sustainable environment through a clean-up exercise,” he said.
He added that activities will range from cultural entertainment as well as adrenaline-pumping traditional boat races to the crowning of Mr and Miss Tourism, Mr and Miss Flex, and Mr and Miss Strong, as well as celebrating the beauty, talent and resilience of the youth.
The legendary snake “omieri” will be part of the exhibition as well as breath-taking displays of fireworks illuminating the sky to symbolize the spirit of hope and unity.

The signature event aims to promote and position Kisumu as a tourism, trade and investment hub within the Western circuit and beyond.
Kisumu is strategically positioned complete with a lake, which provides excellent opportunities for lake tourism, marine transport, and water sports.
