Kisii University School of Business and Economics hosts inaugural international conference

Kisii University School of Business and Economics yesterday hosted its inaugural international conference themed: ‘Building Resilience and Sustainability Amidst Uncertainty in the Changing Business Environment.’

Speaking to the press during the event, Kisii University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Nathan Ogechi said that institutions of higher learning play a crucial role in providing insights for collaboration required among the business community, policymakers and academia in navigating a dynamic business environment.

Prof. Ogechi emphasized the growing importance of sustainable and resilient practices within business organizations.

He stated that pragmatic organizations should adapt their models and strategies to align with the evolving demands of the business ecosystem.

The VC noted that even Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) could engage in sustainability and resilience planning and implementation.

Prof. Ogechi said that the conference was a vital platform for disseminating research information, aligning with the university’s three key mandates: teaching, research, and community outreach.

He challenged scholars to engage in extensive research and seek opportunities stressing the importance of networking with colleagues from other countries to enhance the quality and impact of their research.

Additionally, the VC encouraged entrepreneurs to foster innovation to remain relevant and adaptable in a rapidly changing world.

He noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses with adaptable and soft skills had a better chance of survival.

Citing global crises such as the Russia-Ukraine war, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of investing in soft skills and integrating them into the university curriculum.

The overarching goal of the conference was to facilitate interdisciplinary communication among researchers, policymakers, decision-makers, and consultants.

It aimed to display research outcomes and provide a platform for collaboration between academia and business leadership.

The conference sought to strengthen the linkage between universities and industries, contributing to the enhancement of sustainable practices in the business world.
