The government has been called upon to sponsor scouting activities. The Kakamega North sub-county scouts commissioner David Lutome has that scouting activities instill discipline and self-responsibilities to the learners,  and has expressed fear that lack of sponsorship from the government is threatening the existence of the scouting movement which has a reputable history in the country that should not be left to go to waste.

The commissioner who was speaking from Friends Malava Primary grounds during a two day scouting competition, he stated that the scouting movement was left at the mercy of individual’s scouts and school managers who contribute towards the camping and competitions.

Lutome said the scout movement was re-known to shape the future of the young learners not only at school level but at the society and outside at large.

It is saddening to note that this movement has been neglected by our leaders and even raising funds for transporting the winners team to the county level has been a problem in the past and our plea is to both national and county governments to start considering scouting as a correctional and educating activity aimed at moulding young people to better individuals in the society hence it should not be ignored at all costs.

“Let the sub county education office be allowed to also support our activities by paying for our registration fees and catering for our transport to and from the campsite.”

He called on the area MP Malulu Injendi to heed to their request to be their patron having engaged him over the same through writing and we will continue to call upon the county government that has mandated the ongoing camping activity to fully support their noble course.

Samitsi Girl’s Mwamba Girl Guide Ivy Liaka called on the Kenya Scouts Association to review the price of scouts’ uniforms to enable each one to afford one.

She also called on the leaders to come on board and revamp the troop and scout family at large.

The two day event will see the first three that qualify in each category proceed to the county level to be held at Kivaywa Boys.
