Nanyuki School Alumni Association has donated Ksh1 million to support the education of ten bright and needy students for their entire four-year stay at the school.
Speaking during the school’s thanksgiving ceremony, the association’s representative Paul Mugo said that the initiative was meant to reduce the number of students facing financial difficulties in paying for their school fees.
“To ensure that our donations benefit deserving students, the Board of Management (BoM) has established a committee to vet eligible candidates,” he said.
In addition to the sponsorship, Mugo announced that surplus funds will be awarded to over 15 students who scored grade A in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
“With the school population increasing sharply each year, the strain on school finances has become undeniable. As the Nanyuki School Alumni Association, we are committed to stepping in and assisting,” he added.
Mugo further appealed to well-wishers to support the alumni association financially to enable the sponsorship of more students.
Chief Principal Solomon Kipkoech expressed his gratitude to the alumni for the initiative and the school’s stakeholders for the collective support that led to impressive performance in the national examinations.
“The school witnessed a remarkable improvement, with 15 students achieving grade A compared to only four students the previous year. Moreover, the mean score of the school increased from 8.890 to 8.897 this year. The significant progress is commendable, especially considering that the number of candidates who sat for the KCSE also increased from 237 in 2022 to 331 candidates,” he said.
