Champions KMTC thrashes opponent to retain crown

Defending Champions Kakamega Medical Training College (KMTC) defeated Webuye MTC 1-0 in men’s football final to retain the title during the Western Region Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Games held in Kakamega.
Newton Ondenyi scored for Kakamega the solitary goal in the 40th minute after he converted Collins Onsere’s left wing cross in the match that was played at Mukumu Boys Secondary Schoolground.
During the semi-final matches, Kakamega beat Vihiga MTC 2-1 while Webuye MTC edged out Bungoma MTC 3-2.
“We prepared well for the competition. The charges were physically and mentally in proper form,” said Kakamega Head Coach Robert Liru.
Webuye tactician James Biko explained that his players created many scoring chances but they could not convert them into goals.
In Women’s category, Kakamega MTC were crowned the Champions after accumulating nine points in the 3-team round robin competition. Webuye MTC emerged second with six points.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s Volleyball finals, Webuye MTC beat Kakamega MTC 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 15-25) to clinch the title.
Webuye’s spiker Valentine Mweni tormented Kakamega with her powerful strikes that saw her grab a high of 10 points, while Rose Wangeci of Kakamega dominated with 6 points.
In the men’s category, Webuye MTC accumulated 12 points to emerge victorious in the round robin competition.
