Mandera: No mass testing in schools

By Amoto Dennis

Admitting that a student at Duse Primary School contracted the Covid-19, Mandera County Health Executive Mohamed Aden denied plans for mass testing of students in schools.

He clarified that a decision to test all teachers and learners can only be reached with a consulted green light from both the county and national government.

“They can only be tested after everyone has understand the importance of the exercise, otherwise it will be like we are forcing on them to do so,’’ said the County Executive.

In a related scope, Mandera Education County Executive Aden Roble said testing of learners remain the prerogative of the health docket.

He said that as much as it was a good idea to know the health status and safety of learners, in Mandera, such an exercise is not on going.

The Health Executive confirmed that Mandera County has been hit by the second wave of the pandemic just like in other county in the country.

Although the health boss talked of serious engagement by the county government including establishing Covid-19 compliance rules, a spot check, reveals a business as usual happy-go -lucky attitude in the town where mask wearing and keeping social distance is forgotten thing.

He added that 16 people were recently charged at Mandera law court with the offence of not wearing masks.
