Youth who sat KCSE examinations last year but scored low grades have been asked to think beyond university education and consider TVETs as an alternative and direct route to employment.
The principal of Gesero Secondary School in Kisii County Charles Nyarigoti said the youth should change their mind set and seize the government funding opportunity to acquire skills from these colleges.
Nyarigoti asked parents to be more instrumental in helping their children to make informed choices.
“Let our parents be near their children to assist them make decisions that that will benefit them and the coming generations,” he said.
The principal lauded the government’s funding initiative as one that will help students who score D+ and D to join TVETs, asking students to be conversant with admission requirements to all colleges.
He said they can choose from a wide list of courses that include Engineering Technology, Business Studies, Building and Construction, Library and Information Science, and Textiles and Hairdressing.
The principal asked chiefs and their assistants to prioritize passing information about TVET in their barazas to reach many who do not have access to such vital information.
