Devolution PS Teresia Mbaika has urged  youth  across the country to participate fully  in devolution programmes as opportunities are available at the grassroots.

Mbaika was speaking during the first edition of the youth devolution festival at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), which involved 1,500 youth from all the 47 counties.

She explained that the festival offers a vibrant space for young Kenyans to celebrate, dialogue and advocate for their inclusion in both county and national government programmes.

Nandi MP Cinthia Muge said part of the programme was sensitization against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

“GBV does not affect women alone; it’s an issue that affects both men and women and as we go to this edition that will be happening every year, I want to encourage everyone of us that GBV is a matter that we can … ensure that it comes to an end,” she said. “As we go into the 16 days of activism against GBV, let us all take this responsibility to find a new way of working out issues. Let us not resort to violence.”

Political advisor for Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka who attended the event said youth programmes should be devolved because the target demographic is in the counties.

“I do not understand why you can bring Agriculture, health and other aspects to be devolved and leave behind the youth,” he stated.
