The government is actively engaging all relevant stakeholders, including students, to swiftly resolve the ongoing industrial action at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), according to Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala.
In her statement, Inyangala assured all parties that issues raised by staff and students are addressed.
She added that a Technical Committee has been set to work with management at TUK and other key stakeholders to find a solution. The committee aims to create a robust and sustainable recovery strategy to address the underlying issues.
“The issues under discussion require careful consideration to ensure long-term stability while minimizing further disruptions to learning,” Inyangala stated.
The PS added that all parties involved are being thoroughly consulted to ensure the resolution is fair, balanced, and sustainable.

Inyangala reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering quality higher education while adhering to the academic calendar. She indicated they will work within established legal frameworks and governance structures, including the University Council, to implement a lasting solution.
She asked students and other stakeholders to practise patience.
“Students are encouraged to remain patient as discussions progress, with the assurance that every effort is being made to restore normal operations without compromising academic integrity,” she added.
Earlier this month, when exams were set to begin, staff members continued their protests by holding peaceful demonstrations in the streets of Nairobi. This led the management to suspend the diploma and undergraduate examinations that were scheduled to start early February.
In a memo to students, Academic Registrar Moses Wamalwa stated that the suspension is due to an ongoing strike by teaching staff members of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU).
