University lecturers have submitted a new pay proposal as part of the 2025-29 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The CBA was prepared by the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU).
If implemented, lecturers will enjoy the increased basic salary with the lowest-paid graduate/research assistant earning Sh86,594 and the highest-paid professor to Sh580,144.
The proposed salary increments if adopted will take effect on July 1, 2025, and will be implemented over four years, ending on June 30, 2029.
If implemented the Graduate/research assistants’ salary will rise from Sh63,647 to Sh86,594 by 2028. The Assistant lecturers, tutorial fellows, and junior research fellows’ salary will increase from Sh107,872 to Sh146,761.
Lecturers and research fellows will earn Sh165,884 from Sh121,928 while senior lecturers and senior research fellows in Grade 13A will take home Sh210,524, up from Sh154,739.

Salary for associate professors in Grade 14A will increase from Sh193,182 to Sh262,824 and full professors will pocket Sh305,610, an increase from Sh224,631.
UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga said that annual increments of six per cent will benefit lectures across all grades during the implementation period.
Additionally, the proposal seeks to revise allowances significantly, including house, car, and commuter allowances. Professors and research professors are projected to receive a house allowance of Sh116,028, up from Sh73,715.
This proposal aims to improve compensation and benefits for academic staff significantly.
