A number of University lecturers in the country have criticized the government over mistreatment and failure to honor their remarkable contribution in the academic world.
Speaking in Kanduyi constituency in Bungoma County during the burial ceremony of renowned scholar Pro. Daniel Namusonge Sifuna, Prof. Okwach Abagi wondered why Head of State Commendation (HSC) which is a presidential award is not given to varsity dons despite them changing lives for many.
He noted that the award is only given by large to civil servants and police officers with very few dons benefiting from the scheme, questioning the criterion used that normally fail to recognize scholars like the late Prof. Sifuna whose academic work in terms of publications in referred journals, policy papers, research papers, curriculum guidelines, discussion papers and seminar papers among others lie in university libraries not only in Africa but across the world.
According to Prof. Okwach, the late Professor was dedicated to research scholarship adding that his significant contribution is noted in educational research in policy issues and analysis, history and comparative education, adding that the late professor has left an indelible mark at Kenyatta University and in many universities where he was an external examiner.
