US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, has pledged to partner with Kisii county to fast-track development projects, especially in the education sector.
Whitman also promised to explore partnerships to create opportunities for youth in the region in the health and agriculture sectors.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of giving the girlchild equal opportunities to access education and other essential services while acknowledging that her two-day visit coincided with marking of the World Students Day.
“Bwairire buya. I am excited for my first to the beautiful Kisii county. Had a great discussion with Governor Simba Arati to explore partnerships on how to create new opportunities for youth among other issues,” she said.
Governor Arati welcomed and assured Whitman of cooperation to ensure development in the education sector which will in turn enhance education standards in the region.
Also in attendance were Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) of various departments.
He cited the processing and value addition of bananas and avocados as the main areas of focus for agriculture development projects under consideration.
The governor also pointed out the mining and sculpturing of soapstone at Tabaka and parts of Sameta hills regions as some of the areas whose potential is yet to be exploited for the creation of job opportunities.
