The University of Nairobi (UoN) has been ranked as Kenya’s leading university, surpassing Kenyatta University (KU), according to the latest EduRank rankings.
UoN secured the 805th spot globally and 8th in Africa, driven by its extensive research output, top-tier courses, and a strong alumni network, which includes President William Ruto, Lawyer James Orengo, and Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Kenyatta University (KU) secured second position in Kenya, ranking 2135th globally and 36th in Africa, with 8,541 academic publications and 85,581 citations, along with 16 notable alumni.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) ranked third, followed by Strathmore University and Mount Kenya University in fourth and fifth positions.

Strathmore University took the fourth spot, ranking 3100th globally, with over 1,000 publications and 10,000 citations. Mount Kenya University followed in fifth place at 3203rd globally, boasting more than 2,000 publications and 8,435 citations.
Other institutions in Kenya’s top 10 include Moi University, Egerton University, Technical University of Kenya, Catholic University, and Pwani University.
The rankings were determined based on key factors such as academic and employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, research citations, and international collaborations.
