Zetech University has announced its collaboration with various secondary schools in promoting sporting activities and nurturing students’ talents.
Wiycliffe Sirengo, the official in charge of sports at the university, divulged that the higher learning institution is also scouting for talent in secondary schools with an aim of supporting and nurturing, including offering sponsorships for higher learning.
Among the schools being supported in the programme include Mang’u High School in Kiambu County and Moi Girls Eldoret.
Through the programme, the university organized and sponsored the Moi Girls annual tournament that attracted some 30 schools within the Rift Valley region.
Among the sports played in the event opened by the school Chief Principal Juliana Kirui included football, volleyball, handball, hockey, netball, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and chess.
Kirui hailed the competitions as successful and pointed out that the collaboration with Zetech University is set to hone students’ talents and help majority of them realize their niche in sporting activities.
She also emphasized that students must maintain discipline and hard-work in out of class, noting that this will give them a competitive edge and success in all spheres of life.
At Mang’u High School during the school’s 30th edition of Mang’u Open Tournament, Chief Principal John Kuria acknowledged that the academic giants have been making great strides in extra-curricular activities.
“We are also a power house in rugby, handball, basketball and swimming, among other games. The nurturing of these talents has been enabled by great institutions such as Zetech University and this programme will help shape the careers of many budding sportsmen and women,” he said.
