Two KCSE candidates in Nyamira County sat their first papers in hospital during the start of the theory examinations on Monday.
Nyamira County Commissioner Erastus Mbui who is coordinating the exercise could not immediately confirm, but Education News independently established that two girls from two different schools within Nyamira South Sub-county sat their examinations at the county referral hospital in Nyamira town.
One had delivered on Sunday and the other was still admitted at the same facility in labour.
When asked to verify, Mbui said the Ministry of Education (MoE) had not yet briefed him if there were such cases and insisted it had to be formally reported.

“For such reports, they have to be reported officially to be declared. For now, we are yet to get briefs but I believe as from today (Tuesday), we shall have a comprehensive report,” Mbui said.
The candidates are part of the 19,088 from across the county, with the number of boys exceeding that of girls.
County Education Director Joshua Kaga said there are 9,800 boys and 9,200 girls, assuring centre managers and candidates that the government was keen on enhancing delivery of the tests in time and that security was enhanced to meet the requirements.
