TVET PS Dr. Esther Muoria speaking to students and lecturers during an inspection at a college in Embu.

First year students in Embu have praised the satisfactory equipping of the Jitume ICT hub at Jeremiah Nyagah National Polytechnic.

The students, most of who admitted to interacting with computers for the first time, said that technology in their home areas is almost non-existent with little or no access to the internet.

They lauded the government for the initiative saying that bringing the internet and technology closer was a godsend, promising to utilize them to change their economic standing and that of their families.

Fashion and Design student Ken Njagi said that most primary, secondary and even colleges in Kiamuringa, Mbeere South had insufficient ICT infrastructure.

He expressed optimism that by the time he graduates, the exposure he will have gained shall enable him to change the situation back home.

Njagi said that he aims at market his design products through online means as soon as he learns the ropes.

Elias Njiru, another student, said that his first interaction with ICT lecturers was an eye opener to utilize the digital skills learnt constructively.

Hundreds of other trainees were also excited at the prospect of making money through online platforms, saying that would reduce their dependence on parents who are having a hard time financially.
