Nakuru County Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director Japhat Kariuki has advised newly employed JSS teachers to be good managers of their finances because it will help them to achieve their financial goals.
Kariuki said some new employed teachers are tempted to take huge loans carelessly then later they are unable to pay leading to stress.
Speaking in his office in Nakuru he told teachers to live within their means so that they can enjoy the fruits of their work as well as be in position to help their dependants.
“We warn our new employed teachers to be good managers of their finances in order to avoid traps of receiving unnecessary loans which make some of them abdicate their duties,” said Kariuki.

He added that as TSC officers, they have witnessed many teachers who have faced serious financial problems because of taking unnecessary loans, thus we tell new teachers to be careful with loans.
He added that new hired teachers should be aware of the sacrifices that their parents, friends and relatives have made in order to have them educated.
The Director added that Science teachers were given a priority in the county during recruitment due to shortage of science-based subjects in the area.
“Most of the teachers who were recruited were Science teachers who were teaching students in secondary schools under boards of management,” said Kariuki.
The Director added that they received many applications from Languages and Humanity teachers as compared to Science teachers.
“During recruitment, Science teachers were given an upper hand as compared to those of Humanity and Languages,” said Kariuki.
He asked parents to advise their children in choosing career that are attractive to enable them to have a better future.
