The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) leadership will appear before the Parliamentary Education Committee over the confirmation of 46,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers.
Chairperson Julius Melly said that the Committee will inquire why the confirmation process has been delayed despite the allocation of Ksh18 billion towards the same.
Speaking in Tinderet constituency, he vowed to ensure all the 46,000 interns are confirmed into Permanent and Pensionable status.
“TSC has been allocated Ksh18 billion and we expected them to have confirmed all the 46,000 interns. My committee has since invited Nancy Macharia and her team to come and tell us what is going on,” he said.
According to him, TSC should clarify when adverts will be placed and the date the process will be concluded, noting the matter needs to be finalized before the year ends.
Melly also protested the delayed return of delocalized teachers to their counties, pointing out that he has received numerous complaints regarding the same.
“We have reports that many of the delocalized teachers are yet to return to their home counties. This is wrong. Teaching is cultural, so all teachers must serve in their home counties as stipulated by the UNESCO declaration,” he added.
The confirmation of the JSS teachers, who declined to sign a new contract to serve an additional one year, was among the issues that KNUT and KUPPET wanted prioritized by the government.
