The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reversed its earlier decision to block its officers from attending a crucial national stakeholders meeting scheduled to start tomorrow March 14, 2024 in Naivasha.

The decision comes just few hours after Education News exclusively reported on the commission’s decision to withdraw the officers from the stakeholder’s workshop which is organized by the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA).

In a letter dated March 13, 2024 signed by CEMASTEA CEO Jacinta Akatsa, all County Directors of Education who are chairpersons of the County Teacher Capacity Development Committees (CTCDC) have now been instructed to pay TSC officers travel and subsistence allowances. The officers are notably the TSC County Directors, and Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) and Kenya Primary School Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) chairpersons.

“The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has given permission to their officers to attend the 2024 Stakeholders’ Workshop, scheduled for March 14, 2024 to March 16, 2024 in Naivasha at the Lake Naivasha Resort. The Chairpersons CTCDC can now pay the travel and subsistence allowance to TSC Officers,” said Akatsa in the letter copied to all TSC County Directors, who are co-chairs of CTCDC.

Earlier on, CEMASTEA had instructed the CDEs not to pay the officers the allowances since the commission had not allowed them to attend the meeting.
