The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has come into agreement with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to end the ongoing legal disputes between the two parties.

A court consent presented before Justice Anna Ngibuini Mwaure on Wednesday at the Employment and Labour Relations Court, Nairobi brought to an end the suits and the counter-suits filed between them.

“The parties are pleased to report that they have held bipartite negotiations in good faith, with a view to resolving the impasse created as a result of the industrial action by KUPPET,” the consent reads in part.

The major pending matters include; the confirmation of Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers into permanent and pensionable (PnP) terms as well as the hiring of an additional 20,000 teachers in junior school to address understaffing.

The teachers’ employer revealed that so far it has promoted 51,232 teachers under competitive promotions and promised to add the number in the future when budgetary allocations are availed by Parliament.

The Commission assured that no teacher will be victimized over participation in the strike.
