Legislators from Nyamira County have criticized the former Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr Fred Matiangi and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for the recent transfers of school principals without consulting the sponsors of the institutions.
The legislators namely Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Nyamira County Women Rep Mrs Jerusa Momanyi said that although they were not against the transfers, they were not happy with the manner they were carried out. They said church sponsors who are major stakeholders in the education sector should have been consulted to avoid protests, which have been witnessed in some schools.
Speaking during the ordination of priests at Kebirigo Parish in Borabu constituency, Momanyi who is the area MP said that churches play a key role in promoting education and therefore they cannot be ignored when it comes to making vital decisions which touch on institutions they are fully sponsoring.
He asked the TSC and the ministry of education to embrace dialogue and consultation when making major decisions.
Who is a sponsor? It is common knowledge that some were just named sponsors by their faithful in the villages, and add no value as sponsors to CDF schools. In most cases, Sponsors abet favouritism and nepotism in deployment of school administrators.
