More than four hundred intern Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers in West Pokot county have a reason to smile after they received letters of confirmation from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The teachers are part of the 46,000 intern teachers TSC had promised to confirm into Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) terms by January 2025.
In a speech read by TSC Sub County Director (SCD) Robert Aleutum, County Director (CD) Dr. Esther Musani congratulated the teachers and asked them to abide by the TSC code of ethics and maintain good conduct at all times.
“Teaching is a calling and you should be aware that you are pioneers of the new curriculum and you have the duty of sacrifice yourselves so that we can all realize the success of the entire system,” she said.
Dr. Musani asked teachers to take the leading role in molding learners along the three career pathways namely, Arts and Sports science, Social Sciences, and Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
“The purpose of the pathways is to allow students to specialize and nurture their talents,” she said.
The Director added that existing secondary schools will adopt these pathways depending on their physical and human resource as well as their infrastructure, some may take two while others all three disciplines.
Dr. Musani added that the pathways will ensure all learners succeed according to their strengths.
“Our senior schools will lay a foundation upon which training at the tertiary level can begin for specialization and preparation to enter the job market,” she stated.
