A key vacancy has arisen in the management of the Trans Nzoia Kenya Secondary Schools Association (KESSHA) following the recent transfer of a top official outside the county. As a result, over 200 principals are set to convene during the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in April.
This AGM is of utmost importance as it will be the platform to fill the position of county Vice-Chairperson, which became vacant after Grace Taro’s transfer from St Monica’s Girls’ Secondary School to Ahero Girls’ Secondary School in Kisumu.
Taro, who had faced challenges running the Catholic Church-sponsored school for over five years, has since been replaced by Elizabeth Okindo.
Fellow principals felt Okindo should first acclimatize to the region before becoming involved in KESSHA leadership programmes
Taro had served as Vice-Chairperson alongside County Chairperson Bernard Masinde during the last AGM held in Kisumu, where they were both elected for a five-year term.
As the outgoing Chairperson came from the Kwanza Sub-County, the zone is now tasked with nominating a replacement for Taro.
Last week, principals from the zone travelled to Kisumu to reaffirm their support for Geoffrey Murunga, Head of Goseta Boys’ High School, as the new Vice-Chairperson of Trans Nzoia County KESSHA.
The upcoming AGM, which will include school heads from Saboti, Kwanza, Cherangany, Endebess, and Kiminini sub-branches, is expected to confirm Senior Principal Geoffrey Murunga as Vice-Chairperson for the remaining term, which will run until the next election in 2028.
The transfer of Charles Ong’ayo from Saboti Trinity Secondary School to Kitale Soil Conservation Secondary School will not trigger a by-election, as both institutions fall within the same Saboti Sub-county.
Ong’ayo, who served as the Saboti Sub-county KESSHA Chairman, has been replaced by Levi Musoga of Kimilili Boys’ High School in Bungoma County.

Murunga is recognized as a dedicated Catholic and a team player. His strong relationships with principals across counties, especially in sharing educational resources, position him well for success.
He is regarded as the man to lead Trans Nzoia KESSHA to new heights and set a benchmark for other county affiliates across the country. He also served as a principal at Sabwani, Kise, and St. Benedict’s in Trans Nzoia County, as well as at Kaptapee Mixed in Uasin Gishu County.
Additionally, he joins with the aim of strengthening the relationship between KESSHA and sister organizations such as KUPPET, KNUT, and the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association.
