A tragedy struck at Bungoma’s Kimugui Secondary School yesterday morning as the school mourned the loss of Peter Nyongesa, a dedicated English teacher. He perished in a road accident along the Mumias-Bungoma road while on his way to school.
Later that evening, a separate tragic accident occurred at the notorious Kaburengu interchange, where a school bus carrying students and teachers from Tabolwa Secondary School in Nandi County collided with a molasses truck and a Bungoma Line shuttle.
The bus, returning from Mt Elgon to Kabolwa, was involved in the crash.

Residents quickly rushed the injured to Webuye County Hospital, where they were receiving treatment at the time of writing. The hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr David Kunikina, has yet to confirm the number of casualties as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
These twin tragedies have reignited concerns over road safety, particularly in high-risk areas like Kaburengu.
