Top talents in this year’s Kenya Secondary Sports Association (KSSA) games are set to benefit from scholarships worth Ksh10 million from Zetech University.

Wycliffe Sirengo, the varsity’s Head of Sports, noted that the scholarship programme provides fully paid academic sponsorships to deserving students in football, basketball, volleyball (men) and rugby (men).

The Sports head disclosed that officials from the institution have been scouting for beneficiaries during the games and will reveal them in due time.

Speaking in an interview, Sirengo said that the beneficiaries will join the University’s sports teams including Zetech Sparks (basketball), Zetech Oaks (rugby) and Zetech Titans (football).

He noted that the aim is to promote sporting activities and nurture students’ talents, adding that the initiative seeks to motivate the youth to pursue sports as a career.

“The University understands that apart from excelling in academics, there’s need to nurture talents and encourage young people to pursue their passion in sports. I personally attended the games to identify promising athletes who will benefit from our programme,” he said.

Sirengo added that the institution is keen on nurturing talents among its students noting that actively engaging students in sports helps eradicate drugs and substance abuse.

“We have made our students ambassadors for the fight against drugs and substance abuse through sports,” he said.

At the same time, the official highlighted that sporting activities enable learners to leave learning institutions having been trained holistically to better adapt to the dynamic job market.
