The essay writing industry in Kenya has grown significantly, becoming a major source of income for many young, educated Kenyans with an estimation of over 40,000 writers in the sector who provide services to students in various higher learning institutions.
This has created a substantial economic opportunity for many especially, given the high rates of underemployment. There are numerous platforms where Kenyan writers can find work.
Some of the top platforms include, Essay pro, Uvocorp, Writer’s Bay, and Quality Writers. These platforms offer various types of academic writing jobs, from essays to research papers, and provide a flexible source of income.
The industry raises various significant ethical questions, particularly regarding academic integrity. The use of essay writing services by students can undermine the educational process and devalue genuine academic achievements.

A recent documentary, “The Shadow Scholars,” explores the complexities of this industry. It highlights how many young Kenyans, despite being highly educated, turn to essay writing due to limited job opportunities.
