Three people from Tharaka Nithi county including a Member of County Assembly (MCA) appeared before a Chuka court where they were charged with abduction and torture of a primary school teacher.
Muthambi MCA Morris Maugu, Martin Murangiri and Phineas Muriuki were accused of abducting Adams Kenneth Nthiga at a location within Muthambi Sub-County on August 15th before torturing him.
The Court also heard that the three jointly damaged a mobile phone worth Ksh18,000 belonging to the victim.
Before Magistrate Duke Ochalo, the three denied committing the two offences.
The matter will be mentioned on the September 18th and the hearing set on the November 3rd.
The lawyer representing the accused, Kirimi Muturi, pleaded with the Court to give his clients a lenient bond since they are not a flight risk and are also innocent until proven guilty.
He noted that when they were arrested by Police, they were released on a Ksh20,000 cash bail and have since been reporting to police as instructed.
“I urge the court to maintain the same Ksh20,000 cash bail or even less because my clients are very cooperative,” he said.
The court granted each of the culprits a bond of Ksh100,000 each or cash bail of Ksh30,000 each.
