The attempt by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa to repeal the TSC Act 2012 has brought unprecedented joy to teachers across the country.

In what looked like a regular proposal and duty of any member of parliament, the teaching fraternity’s happiness has left many stakeholders wondering about the new development.

Following our story yesterday, teachers set representatives at TSC as MP proposes repeal law, the teachers who spoke to Education News this morning have expressed joy and support for the amendment.

They say the time has come for them to hour story yesterday, “Teachers set representatives at TSC as MP proposes repeal law,” the tutors who spoke to Education News this morning have representation in the Commission.

The tutors claim that TSC has recently devised punitive policies that have negatively impacted a teacher’s standing.

“Our students would wish to be teachers, yes, but not in Kenya,” said a secondary school teacher from Nakuru County.

The delocalisation policy, which the Kenya Kwanza Government halted, still chokes most teachers to this day. The tutors lamented that the policy was ill-thought-out by people in the commission who are out of touch with reality. They further stated that teacher unions have been arm-twisted and threatened with union dues stoppage whenever they try to agitate for their welfare.

Following some state parastatals’ recent merging and collapse, the teachers argued that the commission should work part-time to save on the allocated resources.

“I have never understood the work of the nine commissioners daily. It is time their operations are reduced to save money that will be used to recruit more teachers,” argued one senior teacher from Kitui.

The teachers urged the Kimilili member of parliament to soldier on and warned him not to succumb to any form of pressure that could make him retract the proposal.

Education News is in the process of getting views from the union officials on the new development.

Hon. Didmus Barasa’s proposal is expected to generate unprecedented debate once it reaches the floor of the parliament.
