The Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) has suspended medical services for teachers due to non-payment of pending bills by their employer.
Medical scheme for teachers is run by their employer, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) through MINET, a medical insurance brokerage company.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii Branch Executive Secretary Joseph Mogire Abincha said the services were suspended on Monday January 27, 2024, noting that the non-remittance situation has been caused by payment delays from TSC to the medical service provider.
The National Treasury has been blamed for failing to release the billions of shillings required by the TSC for the annual medical scheme leaving tutors without access to medical services.
The suspension has led to a go slow on services at the amenity wing and lack of enough drugs at the facility.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and I kindly ask for your patience as we work diligently to resolve this matter as soon as possible. Rest assured, we are in active communication with all relevant parties to ensure this issue is addressed swiftly,” the secretary said.
He further said that most service providers are on a go slow because of the huge pending bills. However, he said they have engaged them to continue giving members services as they address the matter.

“As a branch we have notified all the parties involved to ensure normalcy returns soonest possible as the health of our members cannot be compromised nor wait,” Mogire added.
The KUPPET members have been requested to seek services from other service providers as the union engages on resolving the issue.
