Kenya Teachers in Hardship and Arid Areas Welfare Association (KETHAWA) has revealed that it will soon provide a hotline number which will be used by teachers in North Eastern Kenya to report any insecurity threat.
The Association National Secretary Wangonya Wangenye while reacting to the recent incident where police officers died with other people sustaining injuries in a terrorist attack in Northern Kenya stated that teachers’ life is very important and it should be protected by all means.
The Association has asked its members in North Eastern region to be vigilant and on high alert.

“Life is the most sacred treasure in this world and should be jealously guarded and protected. Any threat to one’s life should not be condoned. I therefore humbly request individual teachers to personally asses their safety as they continue to teach. Your safety comes first,” said Wangenye.
“Government should also seriously address the issue of security of non-locals working in North Eastern n once and for all and to further enhance the remuneration and welfare of their employees since they put their life in line as they work in this part of the country. We further request our members to report any security threat to the security agencies and to our offices at any time,” he added.
