A section of South Rift MPs have urged teachers to suspend their planned strike and give the government time to address their demands.
Kipkelion West MP Hillary Kosgey noted that the country is grappling with financial constraints resulting from the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024.
Kosgey said that he believes the President is cognizant of the needs of teachers and is keen on addressing them.
“The withdrawal of the Finance Bill [2024] has caused a lot of financial challenges. Please be patient as the government finds ways of implementing the [2021-2025] CBA,” he said.
Kosgey argued that having a strike at the moment will disadvantage students, especially those preparing for national examinations, further expressing optimism that the teachers’ demands will be fully met once the economy stabilizes.
“Having a strike at the moment will disadvantage students especially candidates who are preparing for KCSE. Kindly suspend this strike and we assure you that your demands will be fully addressed once the economy stabilizes,” he said.
The sentiments were echoed by his nominated counterpart Jackson Kosgey who urged teachers to exercise patience as the matter is being handled.

Kosgey also questioned the timing, adding that the government is considering borrowing loans to meet their demands.
“Yes, you have a right to demand the implementation of the CBA but the timing is wrong. I would like to ask our teachers to be patient a little bit,” he stated.
Teachers have vowed not to reopen schools next week if the government fails to fully implement the 2021-2025 CBA.
