Teachers in Kisii have thanked the county government for appointing one of them as clerk of the Assembly, saying it was a gesture of goodwill and recognition of their role in society.
Speaking to Education News, the teachers led by Zachary Motari, Janet Miruka and Dadius Manyara said the appointment of Jacob Machogu Onkeo was a great indication that Governor Simba Arati values teachers’ participatory services in this country.
“We are very grateful for this appointment because it speaks aloud about our recognition by this government,” Motari said.
Onkeo was sworn in as the new Assembly clerk by Speaker Philip Nyanumba to replace James Nyaoga, who was impeached last year.
In the ceremony that took place at the Speaker’s Chamber and attended by both Majority and Minority leaders Henry Moracha and Dennis Ombachi respectively, Dr Nyanumba congratulated Onkeo for the new post.
“I wish you the best in your new appointment and hope that you will use your experience and dedication to streamline our legislative work as you foster transparency,” he said.

“I am deeply honoured to take on this role and promise to serve the people of Kisii with diligence and dignity as we work together to build our county,” he said.
