Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba has said that students will receive Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funds in two days, pending processing.
This is after he confirmed that the Ministry had received funds allocated for the loan kitty from the National Treasury.
CS Ogamba made the remarks during a meeting between the Ministry and the Kenya University Student Organization (KUSO) leadership, where Higher Education PS Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, education stakeholders and university leaders were present.
KUSO Spokesperson Kennedy Kusero commended the students for their patience and understanding while waiting for the disbursement.
“Your resilience has not gone unnoticed and as KUSO we assure you that we will continue to stand firm and steadfast in championing for the rights and welfare of all comrades in every way possible,” he said.

This comes weeks after students staged protests demanding prompt release of the funds, while opposing the new university funding model which they claimed denied majority of learners access to higher education.
The High Court ordered that the model be temporarily halted, pending hearing and determination of a case filed on October 13, 2023.
Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), Elimu Bora Working Group, Boaz Waruku and the Students Caucus filed the case, arguing that the funding model locked thousands of students out of higher education hence discriminatory.
