Nyamira County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Mining, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, John Matiangi, has asked students to take care of themselves while at home during the fort coming holiday break.
He said students tend to take wrong direction during holidays due to peer influence and engage in bad habits like abuse of drugs and substances because the are not monitored.
The CECM was speaking to Parents, teachers and students of St. Mathias Mulumba Secondary School during their education Day.
He cautioned the girls against involving themselves in immoral affairs that may lead to early pregnancies that can curtail their studies.
“You cannot serve two masters at ago and succeed with both of them, remain focused on your studies for now and other good things will follow after success,” He advised.
Matiangi equated education to money invested in the bank to which the owner must keep on adding deposits in order to earn more interest and asked the parents to closely monitor the movement of their children.
The former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Treasurer also emphasized the importance of taking care of the environment by telling students to plant at least one tree in their homes during this rainy season.
“We need to plant indigenous trees because they add more beauty to the surrounding. More so they are the main source of herbal medicine, fruits and shade.” He said

The school which had a mean score of 5.O646 registered 88 candidates and was lucky to take 15 students candidates to the University with direct entry.
