Students in Makueni encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities to unleash their potential

Students have been encouraged to take part in co-curricular activities not only to promote their social skills, emotional development, and physical fitness but also to nurture creativity and critical thinking

Speaking to Education News, principal of St Paul Kyamuthei Secondary School Joseph Musaa said that co-curricular activities create employment and also helps one to have exposure around the world.

The principal said that the school is taking a Form Two student, Ken Mutisya to Spain soon.

“Ken was picked from Talanta Academy where 10 students were sent after we took the soccer team to regionals and secured position 3,” Musaa said.

He added that despite the school being good in co-curricular it is also one of the best performers in national examinations.

In academics, there was improvement in mean grade scoring 5.75 in 2024 KCSE, up from 5.56 in 2023.

The top two students had a tie of B plus while 30 scored B plain among other grades and a total of 53 out of a candidature of 169 attained university entry mark.

The school music team proceeded to Nationals last year and also the institution excels in athletics and swimming.

“The culture of good performance has helped in our results. Our students didn’t engage in strikes when there was widespread student unrest across the country,” he said.

However, despite having own school bus and constructing storey dormitory, three classrooms and a school gate among other projects, the principal said that water is still a challenge since they use the one belonging to a neighbouring primary school

He appealed to Teachers Service Commission to employ more teachers at the institution.
