Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) teachers striking in Makueni were confronted by angry students after they stormed Tututha Secondary to eject teachers who reported to class.

It is alleged that the incident occurred when teachers on strike were going round in Mbooni West schools checking if all teachers were in solidarity.

Speaking to Education News via phone The branch Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu condemned the act, saying that he could not fathom how students could be that violent towards them.

“Around five of our members were injured, treated and discharged at Mukuyuni dispensary. My car’s windscreen was broken too since I had parked outside the gate,” said Kimeu.

He blamed incitement by teachers, terming the action as a very bad example to the students.

Kimeu condemned teachers against the strike terming them as a threat.

He noted that after the strike is called off they will hold a rally in the school and thereafter provide guidance and counseling to the students who were incited.
