Mchezo Sponsorship in partnership with the Aga Khan Academy has hosted a roundtable meeting on nurturing talents and investing in sports, Africa’s future.
The event brought together influential East African leaders, policymakers and sports stakeholders to discuss the transformative potential of sports as a unifying force and economic driver for Africa.
Chairperson for Sports in the East Africa Legislative Assembly, Kanini Kega, underscored the significance of sports in fostering unity across the region.
The MP highlighted the East Africa Parliamentary Games, he emphasized their core mission is bringing people together under the four pillars of regional integration.
“Through sports, we interact as players on and off the field, building a sense of community. When one of us qualifies for an international competition, we rally behind them as an East African family,” he remarked.
Kega praised the strides made in supporting regional sports initiatives, expressing optimism that collective efforts would sustain East Africa’s growing presence in the global sports arena.
Vihiga County Women Representative, Beatrice Adagala, called for robust legislative frameworks to promote sports across East Africa. She highlighted the dual role of sports in strengthening relationships within the region and boosting local economies.
“As legislators, we must enact strong laws that not only promote sports at the regional level but also trickle down to our counties,” she said.

“Africa is sitting on gold when it comes to sports. We are a continent brimming with talent, but we need to invest strategically to unlock its full potential,” he said.
The roundtable concluded with a shared commitment to foster collaboration between governments, private sector players, and East Africa communities.
