St Mary’s Yala Chief Principal elected new Siaya KESSHA chairperson

St Mary’s High School Yala Chief Principal Victor Makanda has been elected the new Kenya secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Siaya County chapter chairperson.

Makanda resoundingly defeated former chairperson George Onyango who is the principal, Ukwala Boys Secondary School garnering a total of 140 votes against 81 during an Annual General Meeting at Ciala Resort in Kisumu.

Philip Abongo of Usenge was elected the vice chair after garnering a total of 130 votes.

Victoria Onyango of St Cecilia Aluor Girls High School retained her position of Treasurer by securing 150 votes.

Joel Odongo was elected her vice while George Omondi was made the organising secretary with 114 votes.

Makanda in his acceptance speech promised to tackle problems afflicting KESSHA in the county.

He said it is not time for blame games since heroes are made out of disasters.

Makanda said the welfare of KESSHA members in will be his main agenda,

Earlier Onyango who is the outgoing chairperson blamed his loss on late campaigns and added that debts are the biggest challenges he faced while in leadership.

He promised to work with the new office in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Siaya Teachers Service Commission County Director Beatrice Ogwe lauded the heads for the peaceful exercise.

She said elections come and go while the members will always be there.

“Let the elections not divide you people,” she said.
